Privacy in brief

MakeShiftPublishing BV (MSP) keeps this website deliberately simple and privacy-friendly. The website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising trackers, device fingerprinting or tools that monitor or infer your geographical location. It does not create visitor profiles, and there is no account or login system.

That is why the website does not display a cookie banner: there are no cookies to accept or reject.

Who is responsible

MakeShiftPublishing BV is the controller of personal data you choose to provide through this website or by email.

MakeShiftPublishing BV Koolstraat 34 1000 Brussels Belgium Enterprise number: 0762.843.236 Email: info@makeshiftpublishing.com

Basic technical information

Like virtually every website, the hosting server must briefly process basic technical information, such as an Internet Protocol (IP) address, the requested page, browser type and the date and time of the request, in order to deliver the website securely and reliably. The hosting provider may keep limited server logs for operational and security purposes.

MSP does not use this information to identify visitors, analyse their behaviour, build profiles or determine their location. The legal basis for this limited technical processing is MSP’s legitimate interest in providing a secure and functioning website under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Insights email updates

If you choose to receive MSP Insights updates, the form asks for your email address. You may also provide your first name, surname and organisation, but these fields are optional.

MSP uses these details only to confirm your request and send occasional emails when a new article is published. The legal basis is your consent. A double-confirmation process is used: you are added to the list only after clicking the confirmation link sent to your email address.

The contact list and emails are managed through Brevo, which processes this information on MSP’s behalf. MSP does not install Brevo’s website-tracking technology. Email open and click tracking is configured anonymously, so this activity is not linked to individual subscribers and is not used to infer their location.

You can unsubscribe at any time by using the link in any Insights email or by contacting info@makeshiftpublishing.com. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal.

Contacting MSP

If you contact MSP by email or through a contact link, MSP processes the information you provide in order to reply, discuss a possible assignment or manage an existing professional relationship. This may include your name, contact details, organisation and message.

The legal basis is MSP’s legitimate interest in responding to enquiries or, where relevant, taking steps towards or performing a contract. MSP does not sell personal data or use enquiries for unrelated marketing.

Who receives personal data

Personal data is shared only where necessary with service providers that help operate the website, email and Insights updates, principally Easyhost for website and email hosting and Brevo for the Insights contact list and emails. These providers process data under their own legal and contractual safeguards. Information is not passed to third parties for advertising or unrelated purposes.

Where a service provider or one of its approved subprocessors handles data outside the European Economic Area, appropriate GDPR safeguards apply, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.

How long information is kept

Insights contact details are kept until you unsubscribe or withdraw your consent. A minimal suppression record may then be retained to ensure that no further updates are sent and to document the opt-out.

Routine enquiries are normally kept for no longer than two years after the last meaningful contact. Information forming part of a contract, accounting record or legal file may be retained for the longer period required by law or necessary to establish or defend legal claims. Technical server logs are retained according to the hosting provider’s operational and security schedule.

Your rights and choices

Under the GDPR, you may have the right to access your personal data; correct inaccurate information; request deletion or restriction; object to processing based on legitimate interests; receive data you provided in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@makeshiftpublishing.com. MSP may ask for enough information to verify your identity before acting on a request.

You may also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority or with the data-protection authority in the European Economic Area country where you live or work.
